During the overnight hours of Friday, November 24, two 50-60 lb. goats were found on their property at China Court and Fairview Avenue dismembered and mauled by a mountain lion.
Hodges neighbor, who is a hunter, identified claw marks on the carcasses as those belonging to a large, adult mountain lion. Hodges believes a pet llama on his property may have frightened the lion away during the attack.
“We have lived here 40 years without anything like this happening,” said Hodges, who wants to alert Fairview and Castro Valley residents to take appropriate measures to protect their livestock and pets.
